Lime Crime Venus XS Palette Silver Review and Swatches

Since Ulta has started carrying Lime Crime, I am slowly building my little collection of Lime Crime stuff. I used to have a lone lipstick that I bought during the two seconds Sephora sold them. I think that was sometime in 2013 or 2014. Anywho, fast forward to December 2018 and I have added two palettes. One of which is the adorable Lime Crime Venus XS Silver Palette. They released three quads as part of their Holiday collection: gold, silver, and rose gold. I wanted to branch out a little bit, so I bought the silver one. For me, this is branching out in a big way because I NEVER wear cool tones. Now I love them. Plus this palette is both vegan and cruelty free.

Oh, and the Lime Crime Venus XS Silver Palette and all of the others are on sale at Ulta for $14! This is the perfect time to grab one or two. Heck, get all three. I won’t judge. This here blog is a safe zone, so haul away. Now onto the actual swatches and review.

Lime Crime Venus XS Silver Palette: Shades and Swatches

The four shades in this palette are very wearable and user friendly. You can easily wear just one of these shades or use all four. The Lime Crime Venus XS Silver Palette comes with two shimmer shades and two mattes.  It is great for those new to makeup and even for long time makeup addicts. As the name suggests, this is a very cool toned palette. We have been seeing a ton of warm tones for the last couple of years, so I think this quad was well met in the beauty community. I haven’t been a fan of cool tones in the past, but I have worn this palette a lot already. The shade names and descriptions will be below as well as swatches.

  • Crescent is a matte warm taupe. I know that is a strange description. I wouldn’t call it a warm shadow, but it is definitely more warm toned than your everyday taupe. It is a great transition shade or you can even apply it all over the lid and buff it out well for a quick, one shade look.
  • Sterling is a shimmering silver. I find that silver is an extremely difficult color to wear, but this one isn’t too intense. It is much easier to incorporate into a look. I like to apply it on the center of my lid with a finger to add some extra shine.
  • Luminous is a metallic gunmetal. This is a beautiful lid shade!
  • Plate is a matte dark grey. Plate is a great shade to deepen up the outer corner or the crease. It also makes a great eyeliner.

Lime Crime Venus XS Silver Palette Review

These eyeshadows are beautiful! The mattes are so smooth and buttery. They are just a little bit soft, so you will have some product pickup in the pan. But they blend beautifully and they don’t look muddy. The shimmer shades are just as nice. They have great color payoff and they aren’t shy with the sparkle. They are firmly pressed, though. I prefer using my finger to press them into the lid and sometimes I’ll use a flat shadow brush for more precision. You will have to work with them a little bit, but the end result is well worth it.  I did experience some minor fallout, but it cleaned up easily. These shadows stay on all day without fading or creasing.

I do have a love/hate relationship with the packaging. It stays on theme with all of the other Venus palettes, and I also love that the outside matches the tone of the shadows inside. However, the packaging does feel a bit bulky. I prefer a more sleek, compact design. This is a sturdy little palette, though. It is made out of really heavy cardboard. It does not come with a mirror, which I personally don’t mind as I have a specific mirror I like using. But this does make it less ideal for travel.

Lime Crime Venus XS Silver Palette: Pricing and Availability

This awesome little palette is $20 at Lime Crime, Riley Rose, and Nordstrom. But you can grab it for $14 at Ulta, both in store and online. Personally I feel that $20 is a little bit expensive, but I would consider $14 a fair price. This palette is limited edition, so you will not want to wait too long.

Lime Crime’s Venus XS Silver Palette is a beautiful gift idea. If you are like me and don’t usually wear cool toned shadows, but want a palette that has them, this is the perfect option. It is user friendly and you can easily use it daily. I highly recommend getting it.

I’m pretty excited that Ulta is carrying their products now. I saw these when I was there recently. They swatched beautifully! The rose gold really called to me. But I kinda have my eye on the Venus XL.

The Venus XL Palette is stunning! That one has been on my wish list for awhile. I need to bite the bullet and get it sometime this year.
