May Favorites 2018

It has been a very long time since I have done a mostly favorites post. Needless to say, I am pretty excited about it. Like other bloggers, I consider these to be my favorite kinds of posts to work on. I’ve found quite a few products that I love, but I’m going to try to keep it short and sweet.

And can you believe it is already June? Considering my year started off horribly, I’m kind of shocked by how quickly 2018 is going by. I’m also already counting down the days to fall. Is anyone else doing this or am I alone in wishing for cooler weather? Enough of my jabbering. Let’s get this post started.

Essence Brighten Up! Banana Powder

The first time I heard about this powder was while watching a video by Tati. I’ve tried banana powders in the past and they were far too yellow for my fair skin. I finally found it at Ulta and it is really amazing. It is the perfect shade if you have fair or light skin. I use it to set my concealer under my eyes and it does a great job of brightening that area up. It doesn’t look dry or cake, either. I do have a few fine lines and it doesn’t settle into them unless I accidentally apply way too much. The best part? it is only $4.99.

Becca Hydra-Mist Set and Refresh Powder

While we are on the topic of powders, I have to mention this gem. Not only is this a unique product, it is effective. It feels wet and cool when you first apply it, but it sets foundation perfectly. It doesn’t look heavy or powdery at all. It keeps makeup in place while also making your skin look fresh and hydrated. My foundation looks better and stays on longer since incorporating this into my everyday routine. It is well worth the $38.

ColourPop Perception Palette

The entire ShaylaxColourPop collection is amazing, but if I had to pick one favorite product, it would be the Perception eyeshadow palette. I love that it is a little different than ColourPop’s other palettes. It has some gorgeous warm neutrals, but there are pops of color as well. Plus it is affordable and the quality is amazing.

Wet n Wild Flights of Fancy Collection

While I love this entire collection, I’m especially fond of the three eyeshadow palettes. I cannot get over the quality. They are so good and they cost next to nothing. The pigment is great, they are easy to work with, and they stay on all day.

Kat Von D Brow Struck Dimension Powder in Medium Brown

This the best brow powder I have ever used. I was a little worried about the shimmer, but it keeps your brows from look flat and like the name says, it gives great dimension. It is a piece of cake to apply, which is a must for me in a  brow product. It also stays on all day, even if you don’t use a brow gel to set it. Good stuff.

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Foil Freestyle Duo in Mint’d Mojito and Sand Castle

This is one drool worthy duo. I know from first hand experience, and it is versatile. It looks amazing on the face and eyes. Mint’d Mojito looks especially stunning over a black shadow. Everything about this new duo from Fenty is gorgeous. Perhaps I should get one of the other new ones.

Favorite Books of May

It wouldn’t be a true favorites post if I didn’t mention a couple of books. My favorites this month by far were Circe by Madelline Miller and The Shape of Water by Daniel Kraus and Guillermo del Toro. If you enjoy historical fiction and Greek mythology, you must read Circe. Don’t  be surprised if you finish it in one sitting. The Shape of Water is amazing, too. But in a much darker, strange way. It has a little of everything: science fiction, fantasy, horror, and romance.

I could’ve included more products, but I wanted to keep this post short and really focus on the products I’ve been using non-stop since the first of May. I have a few new products I am going to be testing out, so we will see if they make it into my June favorites. What were some of your favorite things last month?

I want to read the Becca powder so much! I recently picked up the latest setting powder from Hourglass and I don’t hate it, but I probably wouldn’t repurchase it either. I’m not sure yet. I do want to try this one!

That Becca powder is one of the best ones I have ever tried. It sets everything beautifully, but it never looks dry. I almost got the Hourglass one out of curiosity, but now I am glad I didn’t.
